There was always something waiting to eat or carry off bad boys and girls for crimes like stuttering or defiantly and aggravatingly persisting in writing with their left hand. The previous governess had used various monsters and bogeymen as a form of discipline. The members of the Guild of Assassins considered themselves cultured men who enjoyed good music and food and literature. ![]() At least, those bits of it that are now under the sea, fenced off or still smoking. * This exchange contains almost all you need to know about human civilization. To see why they wanted it shut, of course.* You know? The sign which says, ∝o not, under any circumstances, open this door? * That is to say, those who deserve to shed blood. Later on they took the blood out to make the stories more acceptable to children, or at least to the people who had to read them to children rather than the children themselves (who, on the whole, are quite keen on blood provided its being shed by the deserving*), and then wondered where the stories went.
